Four days in sunny Manchester!

We're off to sunny Manchester for a break in a couple of weeks and was wondering whether anyone had any tips for things to do during the days. We've got the evenings pretty much sewn up - U2, Kings of Leon and REM three nights on the bounce but are a bit stuck for daytime. Looking at the forecast Manchester is going to be wet (surprise) on the four days we are up there. We are staying in a travellodge on the M62 north of the city and I was wondering what it is like getting in and out of Manchester at different times of the day. Would it be possible that public transport is likely to go past a travellodge on the M62 (!?). Does Manchester have a park and ride to the north of the city? Any help gratefully received. Thanks

can't speak for your specifics, but just to mention that Manchester has an excellent tram service in and around the city that you may well find useful. as for daytimes, be sure to get over to Salford Quays - http://www.thequays.org.uk and this place is fun - http://www.afflecks-palace.co.uk - as a music lover, you might want to check out the Hard Rock Cafe in the Printworks (where you'll also find a couple of decent bars).0

You could kill a few hours shopping at the Trafford Centre. There's also cinemas in there, Bowling Alley etc.

Check out the Urbis, the triangle and the printworks. Also worth a trip to the lowry. Avoid the Arndale centre but have a wander down King Street, maybe go for a drink/food down the Deansgate Locks. Check out Trafford centre too.
Whereabouts are you? Public Transport may be a hassle and might be best to drive in, as long as you avoid rush hour you should be fine.2p off is still 2p off!0
