DLA without a clear diagnosis

Options
Hi there
What the title says really.
Am I still able to claim DLA for my son even thought he has not been formally diagnosed yet. He is under social care, speech and language, communications and disability team, physio and audiology. He has some sort of neuro developmental condition, just hasn’t been formally diagnosed yet. I would have supporting documentation from the services he accessed and his child in need plans.
Thanks

    Yes.

You can get DLA if your child needs more care, attention or supervision than a child of the same age who isn't disabled, or has difficulty walking or getting around outdoors in unfamiliar places

Your child needs to be under 16 for you to claim DLA - if they're 16 or over you'll have to claim Personal Independence Payment.

Your child must have been disabled or had the condition for at least 3 months, and you must expect it to last for 6 more. You don’t need a formal diagnosis from a doctor to apply, but this can usually help.

  • DLA is awarded for the additional needs that your child has compared to another child of the same age, not diagnosis.
  • The more supporting evidence you have the better i.e letters from doctors/consultants.

My son has a SWAN condition but it still hasn't been formally diagnosed. he is 12 now and is still non-verbal. He has been awarded DLA 3 times now, and I just send all the information and fill the form out honestly. He had a statement and now has an EHCP so I also send those, as well as letters from SALT (he has problems swallowing), Neurologist, Paediatrician, Kidney specialist, Physio, Ophthalmologist. Basically any evidence I had. He got LRM, HRC for the first and then has had HRM, HRC for the other two awards.
