Faulty electric meter

Hi all,

A month ago I suspected a faulty electric meter due to strange noises from it, heard them previous, it only managed to track it down then.

After several calls with BG, we finally a meter accuracy test, they set up the apt wrong , wanted to do a smart install.

Eventually, after a month have just had the test complete, it is a old meter, been on wall for 31 year, although after research schools only of been for 25 years max.

The test showed a fail, with a percentage error of 55%. From what little I can gather this is 55% faster than what it should be. The engineer told I will hear from BG shortly to get meter changed, although it will be a smart meter, and any bill difference.

Could someone actually explain what it means, and how they work out a refund if ru. I got fast.

Thanks

Gordon

  • If your old meter had recorded you using 1200kwh then really you may have only actually used about 800kwh.

Your bill should be about 2/3rds of what it was after the correction.

Check that the bill they send you makes sense in the light of your usage before and after the meter fault. That 55% may bear no relationship to the error in your bill.
