Late road tax fine
Comments
-
Last hear I left my friend use my car as It was off road so i was still the registered keeper I had him tax and insure it for him to use whilst remaining the registered keeper. My friend at the time hadn't paid the direct debit and I was unaware of this and received a fine in the post for £40 unfortunately my friend also caused me severe financial issue and I am currently on the verge of bankruptcy so couldn't afford to pay this after telling dvla this they then sent the debt to a collection agency called ccs which then took the fine to £80 I also informed them I couldn't afford this fine at the time and could not pay it. Dvla then sent me a court summons where I had then a further fine of £88 out of court settlement due to my health conditions I could not attend court so I had to borrow money from a friend to pay the £88 out of court fine which I have still not been able to repay back. However CCS still contacting me to pay the original fine of £80 which I paid a few weeks ago and now received another letter from a different collection agency called advantis demanding another £80 from me. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I paid the £88 out of court fine and the original £80 fine. I'm at wits end with this problem as I'm getting no help from either dvla or CCS when I contacted them0

I'd have been passing that straight to the friend - his fault.David_2572 wrote: »Last hear I left my friend use my car as It was off road so i was still the registered keeper I had him tax and insure it for him to use whilst remaining the registered keeper. Clarify what everything's for, and see if there's any duplication. All the while this is dragging on, though, there are more fees being incurred - which you will have to pay.unfortunately my friend also caused me severe financial issue and I am currently on the verge of bankruptcy so couldn't afford to pay this after telling dvla this they then sent the debt to a collection agency called ccs which then took the fine to £80 I also informed them I couldn't afford this fine at the time and could not pay it. His fault but not his responsibility
What are the vehicle tax requirements?

It is the responsibility of the vehicle keeper to ensure that their vehicle is properly taxed. The vehicle keeper must:
make sure the duty is paid; or
make a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) if the vehicle is kept off the public road.

That's true - which is why the OP has the fine, and cannot challenge it.
But that still doesn't remove fault for the fine being incurred from the "friend". If this other person really was a friend, he would have stuck his hand up and paid it.0 -

And a better friend would have made sure the VED was paid, as you said the OP cant challenge the fine. One man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0 -

If the "friend" was a friend they would not have cancelled the direct debit without mentioning it.
Or they just don't have the money. Either way losing a "friend" is no loss.0
