Switch energy

my tariff is coming to an end on the 31st January. I've done the usual comparisons and found cheaper deals with a different company, checking the finer details as well.

My current tariff has 30 pound exit fees on both electricity and gas. Ideally I want to switch on the 1st February but don't want to pay the exit fees. Do I wait and apply with the new firm on the 1st or can I apply now somehow

  • Your supplier cannot charge you an exit fee in the last 49 days of your tariff; read on to find out more about this.

So you can start a switch now without worries.

Start the switch now, taking meter reads (and pics if possible) on the day your new provider tells you. And don't cancel your Direct Debit just yet (if your current provider is any good they will do that themselves.)
  • Cheers I will get on it today
  • I'm in exactly the same position - currently with British Gas, looks like EDF will be cheaper. The missive from British Gas telling me that my tariff was coming to an end also told me that I wouldn't be charged any exit fees from that point on.

I started the switch process about a week ago, everything is tickety boo. My only concern was my smart meter, as we'd literally just got it installed about 3 days prior to deciding to switch, and the EDF site warned that smart meters wouldn't work if you switched. But a quick chat with them confirmed that that was a generic message and provided I had a 2nd generation smart meter (which I have), everything would still work.

Do come back and let us know if the meter does retain its SMARTS please as it is a rare event currently and people are genuinely interested in it becoming common place.

For the past year each time I get a mailing to compare energy on this site and click all tariffs it searches and no results showing. Pointless waste of time the energy club. I have got in touch with admin and they have ignored my mailing . Being one the original members of this site I am so disappointed in the way it has turned out to be run just like any other of the sites which have been brought out in this case by a comparison site which can't even function its own mechanisms properly . Remembering the old days when we use to discuss about the group meeting up in London for a party when the site was that small . Martin stepped in personally and helped me which I will always be grateful and I am successful in business doing what I set out to do then.
Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.
If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You get another chance. And finally, be really nice to your family and friends; you never know
when, You might need them to empty your bedpan.

Go into the CEC and edit your details. Likely it is a problem with the tariff listed against your account.

I agree that the CEC staff are failing in their duty to help so I no longer recommend anyone to use the CEC. Especially as other sites offer a wider range of tariffs, more cashback and more accurate annual costs.
