Can someone please advise me... I dont know if Im on the correct forum.
I had a bill query with vodafone back in 2015 for a large amount which was unfair and not correct, we had a dispute and was informed the debt was resolved.
Forward 4 year and I have checked my credit file and have seen that Vodafone filed a default on my account the month after they said it had been resolved. I was never made aware of this and have never received any letters off Vodafone or any debt company's. I have contacted Vodafone who have no record of my account and cant help me. I have recorded letters going to their head office but had no reply's.
I have spoken tot he ombudsman but have to wait 8 weeks., I just don't know what to do, in not sleeping due to the worry of this large debt which isn't even correct.
This default is on my credit file :-(

How did they inform you the debt was resolved? Do you still have this? That will be key. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

1 default will make little difference, especially from nearly 4 years ago.
Is the account showing as closed or settled at all?
Does it state a balance owing?0 -
Unfrtunatelythis isnt something that going to get sorted in a few phone calls. It will be weeks if not months of tooing a froing.
Ive seen a few posts like yours and what seems quite typical among them is a change of address occuring at some point during the contract. Subsequently any correspondence couldnt have bene recieved. Is there any chance this could explain your lack of correspondence?
To issue a default they have a set of rules to follow. THey have to tell you of the debt. THey have to give you opportunity to settle the debt warning you of a default if not settled. And then they need to inform you that you have had a default issued. Vodafone will know all these rules, and in general, its in their best interests to follow them. So its hard to think for whatever reason for you they deliberately chose not to do these things. Im not saying it couldnt have happened but the assumption will always be that they did inform you.
The debt itself isnt a huge problem for you right now, it seems its not being chased and youre only aware of it because of you checking your credit file. Its unlikely bailiffs will suddenly show up. But of course you want it resolving.0 -

This is only true for agreements regulated by the Consumer Credit Act, which mobile phone contracts are not.0 -

Hi all, thank you for your reply's
I was never informed of the default by Vodafone and I am at the same address. I have no way of resolving with Vodafone as they do not have any records of my account.
The default is showing as active and balance owing is over 3k. The reason I have checked my credit file is due to me and my wife trying to get a mortgage and this is now stopping us and we have no access to get this resolved.0 -
But do you still have the correspondence (letter) from Vodafone confirming the "debt was resolved"?I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -
There's an official Vodafone thread on MSE, where you can complain: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5393903/official-vodafone-complaints-query-thread
They are very quick to give defaults, even when it's the fault of their system, not customer, and then it take weeks to resolve it.0
