2k gets me about 5 years unless i spot something that takes my fancy. Last one didnt quite make 4 years but its so good i kept it. But something else caught my eye and a bargain.

The car i sold before that (2015) had 174k miles and the new owner did 30k a year in it and its now about 280k miles, they had an advisory for a tyre and a failed bulb for the MOT.

If looked after a £2k car should last years not months.

I’ve bought bangers for £1-2k before and they’ve always broken after 6 months to a year. I do 15-20k miles a year working construction so need a reliable car that won’t leave me stranded on the motorway.
You need to take a friend with you when viewing them. And even if they break down it isn't the end of the world, you fix it. New cars break down which is why they come with a manufacturer's warranty. A guy where I work does 25,000 miles a year commuting on nights and has just recently got rid of his 1996 Peugeot Estate he's had for years and bought a slightly newer Skoda which already came with starship mileage. Given he can finish work between midnight to 5am so needs reliability he seems to have no problem running around in them.
