Help Needed for two housing issues

Dear all,

Thank you for reading my thread, please kindly let me know if this is not the right forums section to post this, basically I have two questions about housing/rent:

1- I am on my placement year, and next year will go to finish my uni, I am 35 years old and receiving student finance, the normal one and the extra one, I do not think I am entitled to any other benefits, please correct me if I am wrong, I am just wondering can I stop receiving student finance and instead apply for a housing benefit as a full-time student?

2- My second question is about the law, is it possible to rent a room (with housing benefits) from someone who also is paying rent for his/her property?

Thank you.

    1. I don't think you're entitled to housing benefit if you're a full time student because you have the option of student loans.

    2. You can be someone's lodger and claim housing benefits, and your landlord doesn't have to be the owner of the property. Your landlord could be a tenant himself renting a room to you, his lodger.

As far as I know, even if you don't take out the student loan/s, they treat any claim for a means tested benefit as though you have done. That may make any claim for HB unfeasible, I think :o/ (That may not be the case if you have exhausted your student finance, rather than choosing not to take it.)
