Lidl (Athena) civil parking charge

Can anyone please help me with the best way forward here?

I parked in Lidl and once I reslised I was coming close to my 90 mins I bought a tin of cat food and scanned my receipt.

I then finished my full shop and loaded up, over staying by 27mins I also scanned the new receipt and have kept both.

Could it be possible that my ''elderly, infirm passenger'' took 27 mins to complete their shopping or am I peeing in the wind.

Today I got a PCN to the reg keeper.

What's my next move please?

First thing, would be a strong complaint to the store manager/CEO, with copies of the receipts but be careful not to reveal the driver.

Peeing in the wind, or lying through the teeth? Just so we know what we are actually advising on.

As above .... no need to lie, there's always a way to fight based on what really happened.

Mind you, if they actually had an elderly or infirm passenger, they might be entitled to a reasonable adjustment under the Equality Act - which again is best addressed by a complaint to the MD.

However, if not, then don't leave yourself open to further criminal charges - fight them with the proven tactics outlined here.

Exactly why I asked the question to save any detailed response/advice for pursuing through the EA 2010. Too much to do, too little time to be wasting my time going up blind alleys.

Not entirely 'old and infirm'. My sister who is 60+ and I got the hump with her faffing about so I went to the car.

Sent a strongly worded letter to Lidl, saying both driver and passenger were customers on the day, and they are writing to Athena to cancel it according to email today. At no time did I fess up to who was driving or make mention that there was a reason for overstaying the time limit, simply signed it as the registered keeper.

The whole industry is a scam, relying on threats of court, and the public's ignorance of the Law, A bill is currently before parliament which will regulate the scammers, many of whom are ex-clampers.

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of alleged contracts for alleged parking offences, aided and abetted by a handful of low-rent solicitors. Is has been suggested by an MP that some of these companies may have connections to organised crime.

Parking Eye, CPM, Smart, (especially Smart}, and others have already been named and shamed in the House of Commons as have Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (these two law firms take hundreds of these cases to court each week), hospital car parks and residential complex tickets have been especially mentioned. They lose most of them, and have been reported to the regulatory authority by an M.P. for unprofessional conduct

The problem has become so widespread that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers.

Sir Greg Knight's Private Members Bill to curb the excesses, and perhaps close down, some of these companies passed its Second Reading in the Lords this month, and, with a fair wind, will l become Law later this year..

All five readings are available to watch on the internet, (some 7-8 hours), and published in Hansard. MPs have an extremely low opinion of the industry. Many are complaining that they are becoming overwhelmed by complaints from members of the public. Add to their burden, complain in the most robust terms about the scammers.
