The Energy Saving Trust has an 'Energy Grants' search facility. Plug in your post cost and it tells you what is available in your area.

The only warning note i would sound is that some of the grants are power company promotions rather than grants. So do always check out alternative costs, while it's in the grant section, it doesn't automatically mean it is the cheapest way to do something.

I say what I like, I like what I say!
  • We were given a gov. grant from 'The Warm Front Team' (EAGA), it was for energy light bulbs & window insulation. It took them over 18mths, and many phone calls from me for them to actually come and do the work!!
So be warned, stick to your guns, if they give you a grant make sure they carry it out! ;)

Small world as I use to do the surveys on the Private and Council sector properties and also utilise the grants EAGA and HARAG.

Please apply for this as the Goverment have to fufill the obligation of getting the work done as they are given money from Europe each year and if not used can be cut. Also it allows councils to use this scheme of which they can claim back and use for other properties saving them and us money in the long term.

To add to Pak Man. There is also a grants available from your local council for essential home repairs to the property you reside in ie: Roof, Double glazing. electrical work. The criteria is that you have less than £8000 pound in the bank and that you are on a benifit or a certain age.

There is not an endless pot of money but this is the time of the year to apply as Councils pull on reserves so not to have the budgets cut next year.

Just emailyour local Council Help Desk. ;)

EAGA came to my house in Jan 2003 to install loft insulation. A few months before that an inspector came to few what could be done. Orginal it was going to be loft insulation and caity wall on an extension. As the house is an old terraced house it doesnt have cavity walls. He said teh extension (10 years old) doenst need it. So in January 2003 they turned up and lay some loft insulation over some old insulation.

Be warned the workers may be slopy the laid the insualtion over everything including xmas tree and large boxes. We all have access items we store in the loft so it aint unreasonabel for them to at leats move things aside. Its particualr difficult when its a small house and very little space. I move onto teh space bit next.

Last January aftre shoving tree back up and due to know where for my kids to play even outside our house the damn pavements are used for idiotic drivers. I though I would turn the small loft into a play room as it aint large enough to stand up in.

I found out they laid the insulation only in the middle where you could see in, then I wondered why last winter I had problems with condentation from the celings, and damn running down the walls because of the watre from condentation.
