Should I upload government ID on Air bnb?

I was planning to book a room through Airbnb, but the site has asked my to upload some government ID i.e. driving licence or passport. I can't book without doing this, but is it safe to do this?

I had to do this a couple of years ago. I used my photo driving licence rather than my passport, and haven't been aware of any issues. I can understand the need to verify identity when you will be staying in someone's home, not so much if it's more like a normal holiday rental as many Airbnbs are now

Yes it's just for Airbnb, no one else who hires it out will see it. It's safe to do that. It's just to verify who you are, so if you break the law in an airbnb they can track you (or trash the place or use it as a brothel - that has been done on airbnbs in the past!)
