Gap between exchange and completion question

My buyer wants to exchange 29 March . I have no objection to this and nor does my vendor. I think that in theory we will be in a position to exchange contracts in a week maybe two at the outside. Is it reasonable and/or permissible to ask him to exchange as soon as we can and have a longish wait to complete? Whilst it hasn’t been intentional it’s taken 7 months to get him to this point and I don’t want to give him more opportunity to bale than is absolutely necessary! Tia for your advice

Presume you mean 'complete' on 29 March.

No harm in asking. Personally I'd not want more than around 5 weeks, but then I'm not in your shoes! If he's got a mortgage, double check it's not expired!

Yeah I mean complete making myself dizzy with it all. He has only just got his mortgage which is to cut a long story short why it’s taken 7 months to get this far. My mortgage offer has expired and I’ve had to redo mine mind you!
