EDF Energy Bill Advice

VAT on a domestic supply is 5% unless I've missed the increase, it's 5% on my bill for this month.
Also, you could have read the meter incorrectly - rate 1 and rate 2 should be day/night reads (or night/day reads, depends on meter) and rate 4 could well be the TOTAL of day/night added together - depends on meter.
There is also the possibility that the wrong meter was being read - common problem in flats.
Too late now, though as you no longer have access to the meter to check.0 -
When did you first ask the ombudsman service to assist you?
Have you received a final response from the ombudsman?
- if so when, what was the final resolution and did you accept it?
From memory, I contacted the Ombudsman around May/June last year, once it was clear EDF customer services & complaints dep. was unable to assist us. The case with them lasted a couple of months and their final conclusion was that unless I proved the bill was incorrect, I was responsible to pay it. I rejected their final conclusion.0 -
This is what I have calculated..
Rate 1 @ 22.68p
Rate 4 @ 7.64p
Rate 1 Start 18209 End 21421
21421 – 18209 = 3212 @ 22.68p = £728.48
Rate 4 Start 13299 End 21962
21962 – 13299 = 8663 @ 7.64p = £661.85
£728.48 + £661.85 = £1,390.33
20th Oct 2017 up to 20th Sept 2018 = 336 days
336 days x 18p per day = £60.48
£1,390.33 + £60.48 = £1,450.81
20% VAT = £290.16
= £1,740.97
Well spotted D_M_E for the VAT
In what way do the EDF figures differ to yours - consumption, unit rates ? Do you agree on the opening reads ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

I didn't even know it was 5% VAT not 20% which is even better for me.. I now calculate it to total £1,523.35. I have presented these working to EDF, the Ombudsman and a debt collector, and not once has anyone told me I'd worked VAT out too high!!
From my EDF bills the consumption and unit rates are the same, that's where I got the figures from when I worked it out. This is why I am struggling to see how the have added an extra £1,000 on to my bill.0 -

Well presumably you did provide your evidence to the ombudsman of the artithmetical error you allege.
However, as you have now rejected their final proposed resolution, the only way to pursue this now is via court, as the ombudsman would have explained to you.0 -
There must be something else on the bill to make the £1000. Is it a debt carried forward from the previous owner.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
