What is so special about the type of bulb used in these heavily advertised "Serious Reader" lights?
The lights are an eye-watering price - are they using a secret type of bulb or is it simply massively overcharging for a LED or similar that is widely available?

I did use the forum search for "serious readers" but that thread didn't come up. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction - it looks, as I suspected that the brand is taking people for a rideLet the wind free, where e'r you may be.0

I thought the prices for "gold-plated" "oxygen-free" "high quality" Monster cables were a spectacular rip-off, but the prices for "Serious Readers" lights are quite mind-bogglingly amusing! They could sell London Bridge or the Eiffel Tower several times over, I would think...
"Taking people for a ride"? Yes, to the edge of the solar system (and back, maybe).0 -
You'd want to make sure you use a decent power cable too or the light will look rubbish. No need to go overboard though, you can get a cheap 2m cable for less than $900 here0

They probably have to charge so much to mitigate their Royal Mail fees caused by sending unsolicited junk mail to all and sundry who return it back to their freepost address along with miscellaneous but heavy bric a brac...

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
Daylight bulbs are very good for craft work such as embroidery, but I think for reading you need a softer light, otherwise there is likely to be a glare from the white pages, especially if you wear glasses. I bought one of these lamps which works well for both.

Bought my old Mum one of these after she had a choking fit over the Serious Readers rip off price.
Excellent light
