Good shout, I have just read it back and made the assumption that it was an investment rather than the OPs main residence.kingstreet wrote: »BuildStore?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. It would be worth your while finding out exactly what 'habitable' means. I'm guessing wind and water tight, with loo, running water, electric - but does it mean there has to be a kitchen (and how do you define 'kitchen'? Does it have to be fitted?). You might actually be able to get to 'habitable' relatively cheaply. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

I understand what you're suggesting (and have given this some thought myself), but the issue here is how I would fund this.
While I probably have enough saved to do the work to make it 'habitable', I don't have enough to do this and buy the property. Unless I'm missing something (which is entirely likely!), this would mean that I would be be paying for work on someone else's property in the hopes that they would stick to their end of the bargain and that I'd get a mortgage afterwards to complete the purchase.0 -
Have a look at BuildStore.
