Help with combi boiler please
Hi
Hoping someone can help me. There has been a big burst water pipe in my area causing flooding to homes (not mine) and affecting many areas leaving them without water.
I've had no water for over 9 hours. My Potterton Promax Combi HE Plus boiler is working fine and heating the four radiators in my house. No signs of pressure dropping. I have no hot or cold storage tanks in the house. All water comes from the mains.
Is this safe or am I damaging my boiler?
Thanks in advance.

Your central heating is a closed system, it recirculates that same water without drawing any from the mains.0

Combi will shut down its self if the pressure drops too low. when this happens you top it up from the filling loop - provided the mains is back on. So no, no harm whatsoever.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

Many thanks to both of you for taking the time to reply. It's very much appreciated.
I've "googled" and "thought" it was ok but I knew there would be folk on this forum who would be able to reassure me. I did try my energy provider EDF, they didn't know, passed me onto the Energy Grid, they didn't know either, who passed me onto some national Gas safety organisation?? and they didn't know either!!
So thanks again for your help.0 -
Nobody 'official' is going to give you advice over the phone where gas safety is involved, because of the potential legal ramifications if their advice proves to be wrong. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Yeah you're right Macman. EDF initially said it was "absolutely safe" but when I said "Are you sure?" they backtracked.
Can always rely on some good advice here though.0 -

This was at 9.00pm at night so couldn't contact them. Knew I could rely on sound advice on here though due to previous experience.0
