Interior door frame paint

Hi, we (me and my gf) purchased our first house almost 5 years ago, and it was in good decorative order.

I am thinking of re-painting the interior door frames. However I do not know if our frames are currently eggshell or satinwood. It’s definitely not gloss. Is there an easy way to tell the difference? The appearance is a Matt finish, with a slight sheen at certain angles.

Thanks

Silly question but why do you need to know?

Depending how long since the door frames were painted, and how they have been treated since (inc. cleaning) , the colour and sheen may have altered quite a bit.

AFAIK eggshell is less shiny than satin/ silk.

I want the frames to match the doors. I don’t think you can get gloss, satinwood or eggshell tester pots.

the difference in sheen between eggshell and satin is negligible, it wont be identical between brands. I would think once you've done the frames and skirtings you may as well do the doors. With a mini foam roller doors take about 2 mins per side to paint, just whip the handles off.

If its been five years, even if you got the correct paint, I wouldn't necessarily expect it to match exactly after that amount of time. At least thats been my experience of Satinwood paint. So as said, might be easier to do the lot.

And taking a sample to the DIY shed for paint matching would be .... awkward. :p

Modern internal doors are often textured and matt/ eggshell. Frames tend to be smoothier, often slightly shinier, or not painted at all of course.

Be sure your doors are clean as a whistle before you match up the new frames, diluted sugar soap can shift what most other cleaning products cannot. Too strong a solution may take the sheen down a notch tho (can be positive or negative).

Sugar soap is the ultimate cleaning product to me, yet I still get shocked at what it shifts. :o
