NCP Parking Charge - Ticket was paid

Hi, sorry I have read through the stickies but couldn't find the answer I needed.
We received a letter from NCP (dated last week) stating a Parking charge of £100.00 due to a car using the car park around the 16th Dec at 4pm. It states car was issued with a PCN at the time due to no valid ticket or other cashless payments detected.
This is the first we have heard of it, there was no PCN attached to the car on that date. Attempt was made to pay on the carpark machine at the time but didn't have enough cash (also the payment machine was broken and there's a note saying please use other machine on the other side of carpark) so parking was paid for using the app and the code on the machine. We have the VAT receipt which covers the car on that date and time.
However, the receipt carpark name is very slightly different to the one on the letter.
I have been down to the carpark this morning and there is one carpark with a barrier in the middle basically splitting it in two. The two machines do have different numbers on for the app - like they said one of the machines is still broken with a sign on it saying to use the other machine (I have taken a picture) so there is currently only 1 working machine for the two apprently different NCP carparks. There is nothing anywhere to highlight these are two different carparks, it just looks like one carpark with two machines and the fact the broken machine informs you to use the other just compounds that fact.
As this is the first we have heard it is now over 30 days since the carpark was used.
I think this is quite a clear misunderstanding but from reading advice to others I am confused about appealing. This does seem quite clear cut and the ticket was paid for but I'm worried they will dismiss this on a technicality and by calling them I have acknowledged their charge?

Sounds like a case of them having unclear signs & a confusing 2 car parks next to each other.didn't have enough cash (also the payment machine was broken and there's a note saying please use other machine on the other side of carpark) so parking was paid for using the app and the code on the machine. For second stage POPLA, you would need to get photo/video evidence of the sign that tells you to go to the other machine on the 'other side' of the car park, then show how you went to the 'other side of the car park' and paid using the app shown at that machine.
But of course for now it's all about getting a POPLA code and that's what the NEWBIES thread template is for. No altering it, except you could edit the sentence about the PDT machine, to say it was broken and you paid a instructed on the other side of the car park. Leave it at that and then gather your evidence for POPLA next month.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
