2019 Air Source Heat Pump Quote £10k too much?

We live in a detached 1 bedroom home and got offered a Air Source Heat Pump system (air to water) for £10k. A lot of things such a disposing of old boiler, 3 new radiators, as well as chemical flush are thrown in "for free".

I have looked up and the evergreenenergy says: 'The Energy Saving Trust estimates that a typical air source heat pump installation will cost you around £6000 – £8000'. Surely if we live in a 1 bedroom it should be on the lower end. Although evergreenenergy doesn't say if it's with radiator etc.

Also the bloke that came to visit is saying that nowadays they run really quiet, that it doesn't matter where you place it and that it doesn't have to be south facing (we live in Cambridgeshire).

Any advice? Would really appreciate!

I suggest that you get more than one quote, I asked for six from various companies so I could compare them for not only price but competence as well.

Unfortunately two wanted £200+ up front, just to come and quote, one didn't bother to respond and two out of the other three didn't inspire me much.

The company I went with was EverGreen Energy over near Wisbech who understood my requirements, and who gave me several quotes based on a couple of scenario's and who IMO did an excellent job - that was eight years ago.

I also visited their premises where they had several working systems installed which gave me an opportunity to see and hear them running and discuss my requirements.. There was another company down ar Bar Hill whom I also visited but although they also had a working system didn't inspire confidence.

I dont know how much heatpumps cost nowadays but our's came out at around £6k (just for the pump) eight year ago for an 11kw Dailkin split unit. The cost of the the other stuff (hot water tank, plumbing and underfloor heating) more than doubled it all.

I'm guessing that you are trying to fit a pump onto an existing system so it need to be properly cleaned and possibly a fair amount of replumbing - new radiators, what about a hot water tank. What make and size of heat pump etc.

Even if the EST suggest that one would cost around £6k is that just for the pump or does it include all the the other stuff as well. The installation and commisioning of a pressurised hot water cylinder could add at least £1k to the cost.

There are two ways of getting quote - "all in", like yours seems to be or itemised so you know what the costs of each item is going to be.

What is the VAT rate on your quote as that could have a bearing on the overal cost as well - see here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/vat-on-energy-saving-materials-and-heating-equipment-notice-7086
