Yahoo Mail Upgrade

I have the Classic version of Yahoo mail - not bothered to upgrade as it does what's required for my personal use, but now I've received this:
"Starting January 31st, 2019, the classic version of Yahoo Mail that you’re using on your computer will no longer be available. To ensure continued access to your Yahoo Mail account, you will be automatically upgraded to the latest version of Yahoo Mail or Basic Mail, depending on the compatibility of your computer’s web browser".
Fair enough but further info contained in a link states:
"Most Yahoo products are browser-based and work best with the newest version (excluding "beta") of the browsers listed below. Yahoo features may not work properly if you're using an older operating system (which can't be updated) or an outdated or unsupported browser".
"Internet Explorer (which I have/use) is no longer a supported web browser for Yahoo products. Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Edge" are their suggested options.
Really? I won't be able to use the web browser of my own choice & continue to use my yahoo mail? Or is it just that actually it may not necessarily work properly in the future?
Obviously not very PC 'savvy', so some useful advice would be appreciated - not sure what the consequence might be if I do nothing. Thanks.

Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

You can't expect every website to keep supporting every browser that have ever been built.
Internet Explorer is old, there are plenty of alternatives out there.
If you do nothing, worst thing that can happen is that the website won't work (and you will need to download or use a different browser).0 -
Yep, I got that as well. I had already started using Google Chrome as my Browser as I received an e-mail from Yahoo some time ago (6 months or more?) which said IE would no longer be supported. I very rarely use the Browser to check e-mail (except for Spam which isn't) as I pull it all through using MS Outlook. Do recall when I received the e-mail some time ago that changing to Chrome from IE would have been OK if I had done it through the pop-up that kept asking me to use Chrome rather than do it myself as it (I) screwed up my favourites! You can of course just install Chrome and use it only for e-mail as I do.0

"Internet Explorer (which I have/use) is no longer a supported web browser for Yahoo products & I must install: Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Edge".
Doesn't sound like something that would normally be written in a business' terms - just guessing you've edited slightly ot add in the 'I Must' bit.
I would expect it to still work fine, its rare for big websites like this block specific browsers, but I guess if there are problems with functionality or styling then they are washing their hands of that.0 -
I haven't had the email (yet) but I think the message is supposed to be implying that if you use an out of date copy of Internet Explorer (that is anything other than version 11) then the website may not work.
Considering Windows 7 has the largest market share of all the Windows operating system and it cannot run Edge, its only other default option is Internet Explorer (which you can upgrade to IE11 from Windows Update if it hasn't done so already), I'd be very surprised if Yahoo Mail ceases to work completely on it.0 -

Amazon wont allow my ancient version of firefox to play video
Its an old version because some addons cannot be updated to run on newer versions, developers moved on.
Found a use for Edge, just before MS scrap it from what i hearCensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The email doesn't say that you won't be able to use the web browser of your choice for Yahoo Mail, just that, if you continue to use Internet Explorer, you'll be served Basic Mail.
That's odd, because it says:
"To ensure continued access to your Yahoo Mail account, you will be automatically upgraded to the latest version of Yahoo Mail or Basic Mail, depending on the compatibility of your computer’s web browser".
This is followed by a link "for more information on which web browsers yahoo mail supports", there it cleary states "Internet Explorer - IE is no longer a supported browser for Yahoo products".Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
When I refresh yahoo now I get the message 'It’s time to upgrade your inbox
This version of Yahoo Mail will no longer be available. We encourage you to upgrade to the latest version of Yahoo Mail now.'
I use Chrome. What happens if I ignore the message? I didn't like the upgraded version I saw last time as I couldn't see how to filter messages as I can now.0 -

It will most likely just not give you a choice eventually.0
