Cheap Ferry to Spain

Hi

My girlfriend and I are looking to drive-ferry to Spain next summer. I need to leave via the south coast of England and arrive in Northern Spain.

The cheapest ferry I've managed to find so far is £548 to go from Portmouth to Bilbao with P&O return (for two), but that's not very cheap!

Does anyone have any advice for finding cheaper ferry fares?

Well if you've also priced Britanny Ferries Plymouth - Santander you've seen the lot. Other than varying your dates there's not a lot else you can do.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. We did consider changing the drive-ferry ratio by getting a ferry to Bordeaux, but we couldn't find any. Do you know of any other ferry routes we could utilise (short of Dover - Calais) in order to save on the price?

Plymouth Roscoff or Portsmouth St Malo will save a lot of driving and will be cheaper - but still fairly pricy routes in the summer.

My experience is the 'cheap' ferry sites usually charge the same price as booking direct with the ferry company but have the advantage of showing all the routes together. Plus a few that are in the planning stage.

P&O often have some form of sale in the New Year - may be worth waiting.
