Changing from prepay meters to bills

I am currently with BG on dual fuel on prepay meters. I have tried to change to a credit meter so I can pay DD but have been refused based on credit score. The only negative on my score is that I am not a British citizen but BG will not let me swap based on this. So they basically keep me on a more expensive meter against my wish. Are they allowed to do this? Can someone ell me please?

I assure you that it's not an attitude against non GB citizens, BG are extremely picky about swapping Pre-pay meters for Credit meters for absolutely everybody
This could be that the management have set a high bar as to when they allow credit, or maybe it's because they earn more margin from Paygo that Credit meters.
However some other suppliers are more relaxed, EDF for one, so Switch to them and then ask for the meter swap - From experience you will have to chase them up a bit after you have made the request, but they will do it0 -

If you are not on the Electoral Role that is a bad start . BG are quite strict. EDF are supposed to be a bit lax.. All suppliers should be doing credit checks on all new customers. It would be wrong if they did nt.
Check the prepay v credit meter rates with the same supplier on a comparison website such as Ukpower/Uswitch which is the easiest to use IMO.
You maybe surprised to see that prepay rates are now competitive with many fixed deals due to the prepay caps and are cheaper than most standard/variable rates.0 -
No not because of where I am from but I am not on the electoral register because I am not a British citizen. I worded that wrong then lol0
