Pet insurance- unclaimable?

So my cat recently died through being run over, I received a call from a vets at 12.30 at night as someone had took him in and they had scanned his chip.

I contacted the insurers today and was basically told that I was unable to claim for 1) loss of pet and 2) cremation fees due to the excess on the policy. Both of these are perils on the policy so I can claim for them. This has upset/ angered me as I understand that not every eventuality is insured for but this is pretty straight forward issue.

The excess is not paticularly high (£75) but due to the cat being a rescue, they ask for a donation of (60) so I cannot claim on it.

I wonder if this is a common issue or am I just over thinking this and need to chalk it up to experience?
I just feel like although the excess is there to cover much larger vets bills, there should be some sort of thought process here where the price of an animal is less than the excess on the policy.

It's the same with any insurance, there is an excess and it is not worth claiming if the expenses are below that level.
When you have pet insurance you are covering yourself for expensive vet treatments etc. but not something like cremation costs of £60.

So, because you didn't buy your cat and have a receipt, but gave a donation, you cannot claim for the death of the cat.

Would getting £60 for the cat's death make you feel better about losing it?

The cost of the cremation is less than the excess so no refund due.

I am very well aware of that.

However if they advertise payment of death as a benefit then surely the policy should be claimable for all and pointed out to you if this is not the case.

Having just spoken to a complaints handler, it would seem both are claimable, there is no excess on these so the first agent was not forth coming with the right information!
