Teccy help re uploading video to PC please

Apart from a couple of phone clips I've never bothered with video TBH (we have some old V8 footage of DD1 when little but didn't really bother with the others-awww- prefer stills!).
Anyway DD2 interviewed my Dad re scouting last week. I have 2x1gb cards full.
I can't transfer it to the PC
It is .avi format and the stuff I have (windows media player and the medion media centre) don't seem to be able to cope with it. In the media centre it says "copying" but it obviously doesn't do, and theying to right click>send to my pics results in a long "transferring file" thing and then a file ref which has no contect when you explore properties :o:
It plays fine on the camera though (thank goodness).
I haven't got the fuji software on so I downloaded (and I'm sure I did install!) the driver from the fuji website, but it doesn't appear in my progs list etc :?
What can I do now- do I need to try a 3rdparty thing that will handle .avi files or what? this is getting out of my teccy dept by several feet and I'm paranoid I'll get i wrong and splat the PC or video...
 Could I upload it straight to the net somewhere from the camera? Never tried that either!
THanks for the help guys, much appreciated (PS shot on fuji S6500fd)

download gspot and that will tell you which flavour of avi it is, but I would put all of your money on quicktime, if so get the free "QUICKTIME ALTERNATIVE"
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
  • Ta I'll try that and see!

i tend to use vlc media player

it can cope with most formats easily
  • THanks for all your help guys.

I have tried the vlc media player- no problems downloading or running, BUT it still will not get the film off the card to the Pc- it tries to download but the resulting file comes over empty.

Any other strategies I could try- would jessops be able to put it on a DVD for instance??
  • just copy and paste it from within windows. no need to mess about with third party software, right click, copy, right click paste.

Yes I know!! That is what I try to do and it says "copying2 for ages, and ends up with a file, named appropriately BUT on trying to open, will not do (and when checking properties of the file it contains 0kb!)

    Heyulp!!

A card reader cost around £10 and will probably be much quicker than your cameras download.

    avail from jessops, ebay etc
