Hi there,

Friend of mine has just moved into a One bedroom flat - currently with Boost on a prepayment meter for dual fuel

Need to be able to top up online and keep a prepayment meter for various reasons

Are there any other companies that offer an online top up service and are cheaper - and wht are peoples opinion of Boost?

A company called Bulb keep coming up as a few quid cheaper in the price comparisons but from what I see, they don't do online top ups
With love, POSR <3

  • all pre pay are capped , very very little in it , not like 2 yr fixed for direct debit
  • You will be using Ovo s smart Secure Liberty meters with a small keyboard. Most of the smaller suppliers use this meter but if you switch away then the smart meter becomes dumb and you will be back to Paypoint top ups manually adding credit.. Even if the new supplier uses Secure Liberty meters they will not be able to utilise it as a smart meter until the DCC gets working properly with smart switching.
Try a comparison site check with Ukpower.co/Uswitch to see if its worth switching away from Boost ( Ovo ) and returning to manual top ups

British Gas which was already supplying my flat on smart prepay when I moved in and with whom I had an account for a short time.

First of all contact BG and check that they will install their prepay smart meters if you switch to them. Then credit through online account, mobile app or phone.
