Unfortunately nothing new here.
In 1978 my husband and I put an offer in on a small flat in London. It was accepted and we started the ball rolling. We paid for a survey and looked forward to having our own place.
After a short time someone from work (we worked together) stunned us by telling us that he had bought the flat. It turns out he had, he actually knew the vendor. The seller was so scared that it wouldn't sell that he accepted offers from every single applicant. Totally morally wrong but apparently legal. Well it was back then, don't know if it still is. About time they changed the law on house sales.0 -
Sadly not much one can do about this. Most vendors play fair and take the place off the market after accepting an offer, but some will keep showing and accept a higher offer as the solicitors are picking up the phone to exchange.0

giraffe69 Did you ask/require the property to be removed from viewings when you offered?
To be honest I thought it was standard practice that it would be removed. Life lesson learnt the hard way. I will know for future.0
