Hi everyone,
I’m currently with Avro Energy, use around 2000kw gas & 5800kw elec and pay £51 per month. Tariff ends in 4 weeks and we’re currently £70 in credit, so I’m estimating to be owed around £30-£40 at the end of contract. Renewal price has come through at a hefty £59pm, an increase of roughly £100, or 20% on the past year.
Just wondered if there was anyone with a similar useage or that may have any ideas of suppliers to try. I have tried doing a comparison but everything has increased so much, my current tariff is as follows:
Gas. Standing charge 17.8p
Gas. Unit rate 2.78p
Electric. Standing charge 17.8p
Electric. Unit rate 12.07p
I can’t seem to find anything remotely near this anywhere I look. I know rates may have increased over the last 12 months but it seems a tad steep.
Any help greatly appreciated

Yes prices have gone up considerably. 20% is good.
Now you've got 12 months of actual consumption from actual readings you are well placed to get realistic quotes.
It is generally considered better to have seperate suppliers than dual fuel.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
You need to use a few price comparison sites and see what is on offer.
The reason to use several is that price sites can have unique deals on on their website and there are not required to carry all the deals on the market either..
Use your actual energy in kWh in the web site for an accurate quote.
And yes prices have risen in the last year across the board as 8 suppliers have declared bankruptcy due to not charging enough to make a profit.
Only a 20% is good, some suppliers have increased by 3 figures.0 -
My tarrif ends in March so I've started to take a look.
Not sure who you are with but as an example, i found Zog is still one of the cheapest for me for Gas so i'm currently planning to renew with them, subject to them still being competitive at the time i renew. Zog is a small company, no bells and whistles but I've had no issues in 2 years i been with them, just submit a readying at the end of the month and that's it. I'm due a reasonable amount of cash back at the moment but not sure exactly how much as its colder now so likely using moreThey don't do smart meters yet to my knowledge, shame but hopefully soon, fingers crossed.
For Elec, i'm with SSE, if you have a smart meter or cable of getting one, check out there Smart 1 year fixed, it mentions in the terms a £50 elec credit at end of the contract so I've posted a separate post on here as if that means i can then switch and get the £50 refunded to me, then that means the cost is only approx £20 more for me for the year as i'm a low user which beats every other tarrif
I can find. Yes, i have to pay it out but i'd get £50 back at the end making it cheaper overall.
All prices gone up a lot i'm noticing as i fixed for 2 years so been min 2 prices rises, probably more in the last 2 years. Glad i fixed for 2 yearsHowever, now i'm about to notice a big increase unfortunately it seems.

Another one to look at, maybe ESB Energy. Do your own looking into, i never used them, just seen them on the comparisons sites. I not heard of them before but apparently they been supplying Ireland for years and rates seem fairly reasonable, downside again they can't take readings from smart meter so you need to manually supply it. No bigy i guess, just kinda defeats the purpose but hopefully they will start being able to use them soon.
