    Thanks, i have checked under the carpets and the boards run front to back, so the joists are going side to side.

    There is no sagging or cracking in any walls and we have been there 2 years now so thank you for the reassurance.

    A structural engineer might be more reassuring than a random from the internet!

    Absolutely! Even if it has been 'fine' for years it doesn't necessarily mean it is safe.

    That would only apply to the support of the floor on the first floor. What we don't know is whether walls on the first floor were supported by the 'missing' wall, and whether there are loads from the roof structure which are transferred down through those first-floor walls. Walls may also provide lateral stability, something that the floorboard direction won't clarify.
