Yes, another term for panel you just need someone to act for the lender and you, get one of their pile it high do it cheap ones.
Your previous one should be able to do a cheap job knowing your paperwork, but maybe they don't want the work so have quoted high.0 -

How do I know if a solicitor is a 'pile it high do it cheap' one? Is there like a national company? (the legal firm equivalent to Aldi).0 -
Doing this yourself would be easy and cost just the cost of registration at the Land Registry..... if there were no mortgage.

But your mortgage lender will insist on a solicitor to ensure it is done properly, so....... shop around! Remember to ask each firm you approach if they are on your mortgage lender's 'panel'.0 -
The issue if you dont use a solicitor is that however friendly you two are now, if the relationship goes sour a few years down the road, your ex will be able to claim that because she didn't get legal representation at the time (eg now) that she didn't get what she was due and now she wants something.0

I’m another for shop around, possibly out of area too. You could probably email a few and ask them out of area if needed. I used one from the quality solicitiors website for buying and they charged less for the whole buying so I’d be surprised if this is more. I recently bought my ex out of our property and my solicitor charged £200 including the transferring of equity he got from me buying him out. I couldn’t do it all myself as the mortgage co wouldn’t allow it. Your ex doesn’t need legal representation unless they choose to have it. They just sign the forms G_M mentioned and the solicitor does it all.0
