This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Pitch black and looks like it could be frosty start to the day, no snow though.
DH and I enjoying first cuppas and he's watching catch up tv whilst I'm on here, I'll be needing to go to the SM for 10am opening, really need some fresh bits for the coming week, fridge is looking somewhat empty.
Had lovely time away but it was so cold on Thursday the wind chill was way below freezing but we had a good couple of days, we got back on Friday afternoon and both worked yesterday. Back to normal tomorrow hence why I need food for pack ups and evening meals.
Dinner last night was a cheeky takeaway which was lovely, I remembered to get a chicken out for lunch today, so lunch today will be roast chicken, roasties, mash, carrots, cauli in cheese sauce, broc, kale, peas, swede (me), yorkshires and gravy. I made butternut squash and potato soup yesterday - a bowl of that was a lovely lunch with a granary bread roll, there's 2 portions left in the fridge for work lunches this week. Today will be spent getting organised for the week ahead.
Keep safe and well x

Morning NMLC and all to follow.
All our snow has gone now but in it's place we have fog. Apparently this is the lull before the storm as horrendous weather is forecast for tomorrow night and possibly lasting a month!!
Nothing much planned for today so I will wait and see what delights the day holds. Thoughts of decluttering are still foremost on my mind, I just need the motivation to get back to it.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely and especially those undergoing/awaiting treatment. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Dark and cold out this morning, no frost, fog or snow though. Yesterday was a real January day, cold and damp. Still, the daffodil bulbs are coming up so Spring wont be long.
My bedding is just about to finish in the WM, hopefully it will be dry by tonight and I'll just put it back on the bed. I'll have to give the bedroom a dust, I spotted some dust bunnies under the bed yesterday!
I made marmalade yesterday, it was such a faff I doubt I'll do it again. The kitchen did smell nice though. My neighbour messaged me yesterday to see if I had any spare jars as she's doing the same today, I'll take them over later.
Not much planned for today but I must get some birthday cards and more fresh veg.
Hope you all have a good Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone,
We’ve had a hard frost overnight and everything is white out there, looks like winter is finally arriving weather wise.
Not sure of our plans today, we’ve been talking about a new sofa for a while and it’s been budgeted for in the yearly accounts
so might have a drive out to the local furniture store but that’s if we can be bothered, busy yesterday what with seeing Lu in the morning and football in the afternoon so might just have a day at home.
Hugs to all poorlies and those with worries and cares, have a good day folks x0 -
Good Morning
Little lie in this morning which was very nice
Enjoyed my half day lazy one yesterday and had a few cheeky naps so I must have been tired. Will have to pay the price today though so a big fat to do list awaits me.
The mussels were just gorgeous last night and as always loads left over as I didn't realise how many were hiding in the vacuum pack. Will have the same again today and the de-shell any left and freeze for a fish pie ...this is one left over I wont be moaning about.
Need to make a sandwich for tomorrows early start (car park gastronomy ) so will open some tuna and sweetcorn and have that for lunch today too.
Sunday Brunch soon but will have to be ticking off the list whilst I watch.
Camelot I'll stick to buying my marmalade from what you say
Hope you all have a great day whatever your plans0 -
Morning. The back room is tidy but the stuff that’s going in the loft need to go today I also did my clothes that where under the bed and pulled a lot out to go Gammon in the slow cooker for later I enjoy gammon now and again. Will put away the clean washing it’s all in baskets ready to go back
We may go and see dh sister she moved last week so she will probably be a bit more sorted by now it’s really nice where she has moved0 -

Good morning all,
We had a lie in this morning due to me forgetting to give the HT his painkillers until late on (they make him sleepy). We went to bed a bit later than usual as we watched some youtube videos after we finished online gaming. He likes youtube and I like to show willing here and there.
It's cold and wet here today. I did open the back door for the cat but that was met with a few sniffs of the air and a polite refusal to set as much as a whisker outside. I don't blame her and I don' think we're going outside any time soon either. I have some ironing to do and a roast dinner to make but other than that the day is my own
I make jam and last years blackberry and apple is lovely (we still have some in the cupboard in spite of sharing with the friend who gave me the blackberries). I remember marmalade being made in my great aunty's kitchen with the big tins of Ma Made but despite this I've never felt like making it myself which is surprising. Apart from the dodgy pleated cushion covers I've re -made just about everything else they taught me (my nana and her two sisters). Until this year I hadn't done knitted hats but even that is ticked off now.camelot1001 wrote: »The worst part was when it boiled over and welded the pan to the hob!
Take care all of you

Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Seems I have been posting on MSE for 4 years
Internet down again earlier this morning but seems ok now.
No plans again, just stay in and keep warm. Been trying to do a 1000 piece jigsaw, should keep me busy for a while.
Thoughts with everyone finding life difficultIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning everyone, I've been up since 4 and have knitted a farmer and his dungarees plus one of his boots. Sewing up and stuffing takes a while, they are quite fiddlesome. I'll do the lady farmer later. Then the animals.
Other than that, just Sunday dinner to do this evening, roast pork and so forth. Will make some stuffing this morning and peel potatoes.
It seems milder today but we had a red sky earlier so the forecast of snow and ice might be correct.
Hope everyone has a good day, thoughts are with those of us who are unwell, sad or worried.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning folks.
My lovely fire is already lit and burning nicely, the fan on the top of it is twirling madly sending the hot air round the room. I've been out to to the barn twice for wood, when I've used those loads up I'll move upstairs to bed.
The dishwasher is chugging away, the washing machine filled up and now I can contemplate breakfast. I forgot to buy eggs yesterday so will just do without, not going out is my mantra for today. There's so much writing up to be done, I can't afford to be distracted!
Camelot -
AOD - love the sound of your pork, I've got more belly pork to cook today.
SO - I would not have the patience for a 1000 piece jigsaw, that's impressive.
Cranky - I was watching youtube until late last night too. Started with Lonnie Donnegan and ended with Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Time to seek out breakfast, I've got porage if all else fails.
I hope that everyone can keep warm and well. Happy Sunday to all.0
