You'll need to ring Carers Allowance and tell them. Any weeks you earned more than £120 per week then you won't be entitled to any CA for those weeks.

If you claim any other benefits like Income Support and housing benefit then you'll need to report the changes for that too, as it will affect those too.
  • universal credit knows as ive told them wasnt sure how carers works out as know you cant earn over 120 week but didnt know as was just christmas job

The rules of no more than £120 per week includes all work you do, even seasonal. You'll have an overpayment of CA for the weeks you worked.

Once a carer for 22 weeks you can earn any amount even a million £'s for up to 4 weeks without losing any Carers Allowance as it's classed as a holiday period and earnings do not matter.

I've not heard of this before. Can you provide a link for where it says this please?

I found a link and copied this from it.

    Taking a break
You can take a break from caring for up to four weeks in every 26 weeks and still be paid Carer’s Allowance. You must have been providing 35 hours or more of care a week for at least 22 of the past 26 weeks (up to eight weeks
of a stay in hospital for either you or the person you are looking after can be included in the 22 weeks). The person you have been caring for must have been in receipt of a qualifying benefit for that period.

Here's the link it was taken from. https://www.carersuk.org/images/Factsheets/Carers-Allowance-2018-19-FINAL.pdf

It doesn't say anything about being able to earn more than £120 for those 4 weeks, it just says you can "take a break"

    It says...
One exception to the earnings rule is that if you are working during an allowed break in care, and are still receiving Carer’s Allowance, your earnings are ignored.

This means it will depend on the circumstances of the person being cared for.

In this case if the Carers Allowance is stopped for two weeks OP may be able to ask for his UC to be recalculated for that assessment period. He is still entitled to the carer element in UC because the earnings limit doesn't apply to UC. If he gets the UC recalculated he won't have lost anything given that the Carers Allowance is deducted in full from UC.

I say may be able to get UC calculated because I'm not sure how this would work for UC. UC normally based on circumstances at the end of the assessment period so not clear if UC would adjust for two weeks loss of CA if it was in the middle of an assessment period. If CA was not payable at the end of the assessment period would they ignore it for the whole period in which case OP is better off. Any thoughts?
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
