Missed payment of 3 months however had no idea that it was due?

My overdraft went into collections in September as I did not pay into the account t for a few weeks and went off travelling. I am in Australia and my mother contacted me to explain that Santander phoned to say it’s urgent. santander advised that I had missed s payment for over 3 months to pay my overdraft which was interest free previously.
I was checking my online banking whilst here and have received no correspondence in my online inbox to confirm my account was in collections. I had the money to pay my overdraft. I just honestly did not realIze they changed my account.
I feel like a fool, how bad will this be for me in terms of credit? I just assumed they would message me or put an indicator on my account that I had an overdue payment but any time I logged online banking, everything looked fine.
I feel furious because it’s not as if I didn’t have money to pay it.
Is there anything I can do?

No. But keep your credit files clean going forward.

They would send you a letter by post.
You should have updated your address with them.0 -
Why was a direct debit not setup.
Sorry but traveling isn't much of an excuse here.
It's a missed payment marker so not too bad, just make sure you don't do it again.0
