Unadopted road incorrect?

Dear All
I suspect this will come out in the wash next week. But with the weekend, I was hoping for a head start in trying to understand the issue.
Basically the house we are buying is apparently on a road not publicly maintained, according to the searches. The thing is according to the seller this is the first he’s heard of this, in his 10 years living there. He’s never been asking to maintain it. It was also resurfaced by the council 3 years ago. The road serves a village and has stood there for hundreds of years. There are also 50 or so houses on this road.
So could the search be wrong? The road name only refers to a tiny stretch of another road which is marked as publicly maintained on the county website. But this stretch was resurfaced recently and serves many houses , many of these houses have stood for decades. There are road markings, street signs.
I wondered if the county view it under the name that it becomes as there is no clear junction or split in the road , it just turns into a different name.
Any help understanding where this might end up, or similar experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks
TB

The searches are for your information. If you're happy, there's no problem.
(Well, they're also for the mortgage lender's information, but even if the road WERE unadopted, mortgages are taken out for properties on unadopted roads every day!)0 -
This is my second house on an unadopted road , no tarmac and no repairs.
The only thing we asked as there are only 3 houses on this road is that the vendor do a stat declaration that in the 50 years they have lived here no one has asked them to maintain it.0
