Flat screen PC monitor won't stay on

I have a flat screen monitor, which is probably 3 or 4 years old now.
Luckily it's not used with my main PC, but the old backup one
The screen doesn't light but if you touch the on/off button (not really a proper button .. just a sensor i suppose) the screen shows for a couple of seconds and then goes off again.
Is this just a case of it being worn out and needing replaced.
It only cost about £100 so getting 4 years use isn't too bad I suppose.
The computer I am on now has an old Dell monitor, so I may as well just swap over and treat myself to a new widescreen one.
Which brands are good ?
I have W10
Just had a quick first look and this HP model looks quite a good deal
I don't do gaming BTW

When the screen goes off, does it show any light at all on the power button (like blue, red, amber) or is it completely dead?
Also, when it comes on for a few seconds, does it show your desktop or is it just the screen's logo (like LG, Acer or whatever brand it is)0 -
Without any doubt Iiyama are the best monitors available.0

Then it could be a refresh rate problem.
Switch off the computer, connect and switch on the monitor, then power on the computer. See for how long it stays on, and if you see it switching off only when the computer enters Windows (when you have to type your password).0 -
Could the monitor have been set to the wrong input, and be powering off because there's nothing connected to that particular port?0

I have this HP 24" monitor, more expensive than your choice but am very happy with it: -

I fitted a TV tuner to my PC and can watch TV in HD when we have different channel choices.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I fancy that idea too, now you mention it. Never really thought about it before, but it would come in handy.
I do have a spare slot at the rear of the computer
Does the tuner give you access to a limited number of channels, like with a freeview box. We do have Virgin cable, so that would be OK.
Unfortunately, I am not too clued up with modern IT .. I'm still trying to program my Sony Betamax SL-C9ES video, which I bought in 19830 -
you could open the screen up and look for faulty capacitors?
https://www.robotroom.com/Faulty-Capacitors-1.html
you could go to google and an appropriate search like 'Repair Kit Samsung LN52A530' and may get https://www.amazon.com/Repair-Samsung-LN52A530-Capacitors-Entire/dp/B00ABL306E/ref=sr_1_41?ie=UTF8&qid=1547890703&sr=8-41&keywords=samsung+tv+capacitor+repair+kit
Admittedly a bit hit and miss, but often worth while.
Just remember to put the capacitors in the right way.0 -
Was meaning to ask on here what the best way is to redeem nectar points. Never done it before and am clueless.0
