Business accounts and Paypal help!

I have been a little naive. I started a small business and I let my friend set up a paypal account in order for me to take payments. I believed she had set it up as a business account but it turns out she didnt. There was no bank account attached to the Paypal.

I discovered the account wasnt a business account and Paypal put limitations on it due to the income. I changed the account to business and in order to fix everything, I attempted to change the name of the account but it wont allow you to.

I called Paypal twice. The first advisor said there is no way Paypal can assist with a name change and I would have to wind up the Paypal account and recreate a business paypal with my name, bank account etc. I also asked if this would stop access to my funds, she said no on the call - she lied :eek:
In order to retrieve the funds left in the account, I had to upload my ID. I did, but left puzzled because that wouldnt match the account name anyway?

I called again to a second advisor who said it might be possible to name change, still vague and contradicted the first phone call.

Has anyone experienced a similar an issue and did they get this fixed? I appreciate there was a few dumb moves in the setup here!

If it's been created by your friend on your behalf, then I think they need to confirm their ID and then withdraw the funds and pass them to you.
Meanwhile you need to set up a paypal business account in your own name and ID - why didn't you do that in the first place?
