Sorting out internet in non new-build flat

I'm purchasing a non new-build flat, and I am trying to sort out internet so I can get it setup on the day I move in (or the day after). Essentially I'm trying to avoid moving in, ordering internet then and having a 2 week or so period without any internet whilst Im living in my new place.
Im going with Plusnet, and they have advised me that there is a pending cease on the line (presumably the vendors did this when they informed their internet provider they wish to cancel their contract on the completion date). They've said that I cannot even place an order for a broadband connection until the cease has lapsed, i.e. I can only place an order on the completion date at which point they'll start setting up the broadband which would leave me without internet for two weeks!
I've been on the phone for hours with Plusnet, and they've suggested I could ask the vendors if they could contact their internet provider to remove the pending cease on their line. I'm reluctant to do this as I don't know much about this and don't want to sound weird/dodgy to them!
Has anyone else been in this situation?
Any advice would be appreciated as I really don't want to be internetless for a significant amount of time at my new place!

Apologies, just realised there is The Broadband & Internet Access Board.
Happy for a moderator to move my thread."If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett

I am experiencing the exact same thing ! However i am with BT
Basically I moved in on the 4th Jan 2019 and put my home move in middle of december 2018.
It got cancelled so i called up and asked why, they said it was because they had to wait for the line to " cease - which will be the end of this month " So they put in another home move order to be done at the end of this month.
When i moved into my new property i plugged my router in and was suprised to see that I was actually receiving the previous tenants line up until my line takes over and the cease takes place.
So , you may be able to receive the previous tenants line - up until when yours is transferred !0
