who will quote contents insurance to include high value jewellery

Options
My Mum has inherited several pieces of jewellery (rings ranging from £2,000 to £10,000), she has a piano which cost her £10k 15 years ago and a mink jacket. I am having trouble finding vendors who will quote me on-line. Does anyone know where I can go for this type of an insurance quote?

Previously she was with Royal and Sun Alliance (via Willis) but the policy was in my Dad's name who has since passed away and it is not that straightforward to simply transfer the policy into her name it seems.

Thanks in advance.

Would suggest you contact a local broker as you dont really fit into a pigeon hole that the websites can accomodate. If you don't know of one on your local high street, try doing a searching on the Institute of Insurance Brokers website https://vault2.secured-url.com/iib/fb.asp?page_id=63 or British Insurance Brokers Assoc. http://www.biba.org.uk/consumer/findbroker.asp. You'd probaby need valuations for items over £5K but this does vary from 1 company to another.

Really? That's bizarre, most insurers just change the name over subject o a new prop. It depends how much the overall contents is, if it's £50k plus then try a high net worth broker such as Aon or Stackhouse poland, if not then any decent broker will do, mine's insured through Ember JD (https://www.emberjd.com, not sure if they do online quotes though, doubt anyone will for that) and I have £12k of jewelery on there, but only 30k contents.

Internet/direct policies tend to offer a set criteria as they are cherry picking the easy business. Whilst they offer the traditional extras which you can choose to have or not, they dont normally allow you to adjust all the sum assureds. That said a number do if you ask them.

The items will almost certainly need to be specified and probably valued in the case of the higher value items. The piano is unlikely to be considered a high risk item unless it is antique or highly desirable to a thief for any particular reason. It will just impact on the required sum assured.

    I used these people.

You can put in your own limits for various things (and add single items on-line) and they will find you the best underwriter.

It's "no frills" i.e. they send you a pdf as opposed to a glossy brochure.
I can send you a copy of the policy if you want (you can pm your email address).

We have some high value items and we found this worked for us (and were able to add everything on line).

With the likes of most of the standard on-line companies (tescos, directline etc.) I've normally found they can't cover us because of their limits.
