How to get into good habits?

Afternoon all,
I hope this is the right place to ask this. My boyfriend and I rent a house together, our first place together. One thing we struggle with is house work. We do little bits, we really struggle to get into a good routine and system. The house often ends up messy.
He was a student and I think a lot of bad habits haven't gone away. We both work full time and I have things in the evenings so I often feel like I don't get a lot of time to do much housework.
Please share your cleaning habits and tips :T :A

Share the cleaning fairly.
Set aside a day or part of day each week or fortnight to do specific part of cleaning.
Keep the place tidy, no dirty laundry on floor, no dirty crockery/cutlery/pans in sink or on drainer for more than 24 hrs etc.
Employ a cleaner? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

At weekends, allocate three hours to clear a room, go through all your stuff and throw out anything you haven't used recently, sort rest into organised piles. Play some music you like. Then put away all the stuff on floors/on top of surfaces that you suddenly have room for.
Honestly, this is what I do in my bedroom, its always the last room to be done and gets in a dreadful mess. Something always turns up I thought I'd never find again lol so its worth doing.
I always keep vinegar and bicarbonate of soda in my cleaning stuff cupboard. They clean oven doors, carpet stains, windows, glass surfaces, cooker hob (without scratching or much effort as you leave it on to dissolve the stains) and so much more. Google is a mine of information on how to clean things you thought you couldn't as well. Stops things looking so tatty. I also use a toothbrush to get into places cloths etc won't reach easily. Say you wipe a washing machine, still grime in the creases so it doesn't look clean, quick scrub with toothbrush and its all gleaming.0 -
When you boil the kettle in the morning, or pop your toaster on, use that time to give the kitchen a quick tidy, wipe over surfaces or wash the dishes, use the time wisely. If you have Instagram follow one the cleaning accounts such as Mrs Hinch or queenofclean as they inspire you to do more. Hints and tips. I clean my bathroom when im having a shower and once a week, usually a Saturday as more time I will give it a deeper clean. Put your clothes away. Allocate certain days for certain washing like sheets on a Sunday and towels on a Tuesday that kind of thing0

You could try an app like OurHome, you create lists of jobs and users, when the jobs should happen or if they are ad hoc, and assign points - doesn’t take long to do. Each person then gets points for completing a job and it creates a leader board of scores
