Holiday Help - Carvoeiro or Alvor

Hi - I've not been to the Algarve for many years. Last time was when children were little to Praia da Luz. Would now like to go back but to maybe Carvoeiro or Alvor.
2 adult ladies, no children. Within walking distance to a beach and to bars and cafes. Nice hotel, 4 Star if possible, and on a bed and breakfast basis. Don't want all inclusive as we'd like to explore local restaurants etc.
Neither of us has been to Carvoeiro or Alvor. Just wanted a view on which was best for 2 adults.
Many thanks.

We went to Alvor last September (we are early 50’s, no kids with us), and stayed in an apartment approx 20 mins walk from the beach & the town centre. There are several hotels in Alvor and plenty of places to eat/drink.
We went to Carvoeiro on a drive out day, stopped for lunch at a great place right by a beautiful beach. From our limited look around, it’s smaller than Alvor, quite hilly, and to be honest, there didn’t seem to be as many cafes/bars as in Alvor, I can’t comment on hotels as I can only recall seeing one by the beach cafe we had lunch at but I’m sure there are more.
Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge on both areas will reply, but we really liked Alvor and will return at some point.0 -
I have a timeshare in Carvoeiro and like the place a lot and lots of nice places to eat/drink. No experience of hotels I'm afraid. This is the only biggish hotel I've seen.

Been to Alvor for the day, nice enough but I like the village feel of Carvoeiro.0 -
Thank you both. I’ve looked at both and I think Carvoeiro looks better for us.
Tadley - that’s the hotel I think I’m going for. Looks lovely on the pictures and reviews are good. Booking tonight!!0
