Poss stupid cat question....

I apologise in advance if I'm asking a really stupid question! Do cats feel the cold???
My kitten poppy is approx 20 weeks old and has suddenly gone off most of her food (wet) she is still nibbling at the dry food but not really eating a lot.
She is still pooping so must be eating something, still running around etc but she's starting to feel a bit boney. She was the runt of the litter and is absolutely tiny so can't really afford to lose any weight. Even when she was eating a lot she'd put weight on but still didn't have a lot of meat on her bones!!
I noticed earlier that she seemed quite cold and she has spent the afternoon, laying across me and wrapped in a blanket. We live in a victorian terrace that doesn't have any heating so the house is v cold at them moment.
I've decided to move her food bowls out of the kitchen becasue I think the tiled floor might be too cold for her paws, plus it probably makes the food feel very cold.
Now for the really stupid question...... Would a little jumper help?? I've tried looking on net for a little jumper /coat for her but all I can find are really expensive designer outfits. All i want is a little sweater to keep her warm as she's so skinny not a bl**dy tuxedo or a party dress for her!!
I'm pretty sure she's not poorly becasue she is still so energetic etc, although we do have a vet appointment next week so will mention it then, but could it possibly be the cold that affecting her?
Thanks in advance!
Anna

If she's off her food and losing weight then she is poorly!
Has she been wormed? I'm glad to hear that she's got a vet appointment soon, so it'll be sorted out asap.
Regards putting a jumper on her...well, you could try. In the meantime a nice cosy snuggly bed would be OK for her. A small cardboard box would be perfect as it has insulating properties. Possibly you could put a warm hot water bottle under the blankets for her, or even one of those wheat bag things you warm up in the microwave.
She might also like her wet food warmed up. It'll be a bit stinky for you and I wouldn't be too enthusiastic myself about heating up Whiskas or similar. She should be very happy to receive some plain just cooked fish or chicken.
Hope that helps, and that she gets back to normal soon.0 -
Hi we had a similar situation with our female moggy - she too was the runt of the litter and still now at 18months is not much bigger than a kitten. She did go right off food for a while - have you tried lots of different ones - she likes lidl's best and will not eat whiskers. Have you tried tip bits - most cats love chicken or cheap white fish cooked in a bit of water to make it moist?
She might not feel unwell and hence be energetic but could have a sore mouth which would stop her eating much. Definitely mention it to the vet and no I don't think a jumper is a good idea for ooh so many reasons.

I must admit I was wondering if you had her wormed as Snowy Owl said, you can get packs from your pet store and they are easy to administer. Wrap her gently but securely in a towel, making sure her paws are out of the way, pop the pill in and tip her head backwards stroking her throat until you feel her swallow. She'll pass them in her poo, the worms I mean, check the pack you buy you may have to redose her after a week. Keep an eye on her and make sure she has plenty of water. If she is off her food and has diahorrea (sp?) water is very important.
To ask a sillier question, has she been vaccinated? It's important to because there's allsorts of nasties she can get. Find her somewhere warm and cosy and quiet to sleep, with all the stuff she needs nearby. If no improvement pop her down to the vets.
On the jumper front, it would keep her warm and be a fashion statement, what's not to love? Lol!!!!
Good luck and big strokes to your !!!!! cat.:A :

Thanks for all your replies!
In answer to questions, she had first set of jabs plus worming tablet just over two weeks ago, she's going back on thursday morning for second set. Didn't have any bad reaction or anything. She's an indoor cat at the moment, so I assume she cant have picked anything up? Her poos look fine!! I even investigated them with a torch and a pencil!! (The pencil is now in the bin!!)
I've given her a tin of mackeral for her tea and she's eaten the lot! I know kitties cant have too much tinned fish but it at least gave her something to eat! She practically inhaled it! In fact as soon as I opened the tin, she jumped up at me and was hanging off the back of my cardigan!! She seems much perkier now!
As for the jumper thing, I had a genius idea earlier!:j I've used one of my daughter's old ballet leg warmers! I trimmed it down a bit and hemmed it so there are no loose threads and cut leg holes in it!! She was totally fine about putting it on and hasn't wriggled or tried to pull it etc!! Infact she's now hanging off the living room curtains in her new pink jumper!! :rotfl:
Wondering about making her matching bootees now.... I'm kidding! She does look fab in her jumper though! (wish I had a digital camera!!)
From a safety point of view, I will take her jumper off at bed time so she's not left with it on unsupervised and so she doesn't overheat as she sleeps in bed with me!!:o

I'm wondering if a little kitten size tiara would be the perfect accessory?! A bit of kitty bling!!
If I manage to get a pic I'll post it!!Joined SW 24/02/2011 :j71lb/28.5lb-6, -2.5, -2, -1, -2 -, -2 sow, +3(holiday), -5.5 (*) +0.5, +1, -4, -0.5(*), -3(10%!!) +0.5, -3, -1, -1(2st:j)

I would LOVE to see your little kitty in her jumper and tiara!
Something else that occurred to me, perhaps she is losing her baby teeth and the adult teeth coming through are hurting her gums. It's possible, though maybe she has already got her adult teethn - I'm not at all sure at what age the adult teeth come through.
As you mention she had a worming tablet two weeks ago it is highly unlikely that she's got worms. Your vet will probably say nigh on impossible for her to have worms due to the tablet.
I'm sure she's fine - everything sounds just right in your more recent posts.0 -
I'm soo glad she's feeling better, I would love to see her in her jumper, it sounds fabulous, how cute. I'm now eyeing up my ginger tom to see if he's look good in one, although that might be asking for trouble, my persian, Angel might be more accomodating although she might overheat, lol!!
Best Wishes!:A :
