Large Email

Options
Hi,

I have outlook 2016 and have set up one large contact list of 550 emails which I want to send one bcc email to. The system wont allow it, so I have broken it down into 6 smaller contact groups using KuTools Plus.

I have now tried to send the smaller emails of 100 people or less and it wont send at all.

Just comes up with a message unable to send.

Any Ideas, as I don't want to have to send out 550 emails individually as it will take a very long time.

Many thanks

James

The email address you have may be the issue as lots of them don't allow you sending 550 emails in one go for reasons of spam prevention, especially the free ones.

You may do better if this is going to be a regular thing to use an online solution which averts the entire problem of sending but of course you'd have to investigate how to add the emails, your correspondents may have to add themselves:

You would also likely find if you did manage to send a single email with 100 address' BCC'd in it that it would be flagged as spam by some mail servers and not delivered.

As above, a dedicated service such at Mailchimp may be a better solution, if this is a business related task - though you do now need to comply with GDPR in how you acquired the email address'

If its a one off personal task then manual batches of 20 or so should be fine done through outlook and wouldn't take all that long to do.
  • There is no limit in the RFCs for SMTP that states a maximum number of RCPT lines in the envelope, so the failure is almost certainly caused by your ISP imposing restrictions that are not in the relevant RFC. Outlook doesn't care how many recipients there are for an email, in a previous role I used to send out a quarterly mail with approximately 100 BCC recipients without difficulty, but I use a proper ISP, not a moneysaving one that does deals, cash back, TV channels etc.
