Hi, I am really confused please help.
I recently was transferred from Income Support to Universal Credit as my child will be attending Primary School soon, but they did not add my child to my claim, which has now been sorted out and I get an extra £277.08 a month for (please see below).
Standard allowance
You receive a standard Universal Credit allowance each month
£317.82
Housing
You said that your rent is £360 per month
£354.52
Children
You get support for 1 child
£277.08
Total before adjustments
£949.42
I have messaged to ask them if the £277.08 is the Child Tax Credit or Child Benefit, but I am still receiving £20.70 Child Benefit a week and £60-ish a week Child Tax Credit (£245-ish a month). I'm really confused why I have been awarded an extra £277.08 a month or is this normal?? Because I did not get £277.08 extra before???
I haven't had a reply to my message in the Journal asking if the £277.08 is the Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit.
I think I'm being overpaid? Do I need to stop my Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit as I have heard that Child Tax Credit will be replaced with Universal Credit?

You are right, you're being overpaid, you need to phone and stop your child tax credit payment. Universal Credit replaces tax credit and you can't get both at the same time.
You do keep your child benefit.0 -
Child benefit will remain, however your tax credits will cease, there may a be a run on which will stop shortly.
UC should notify tax credits automatically telling them to stop payments.
Send a journal message or ring the service centre to check, or you may end up having to pay money back.0 -
Thank you both, I got a letter yesterday morning (the day after I started this thread) and it said I have been overpaid, please pay it back - which I have done as well as cancelled my claim. I think it was because my child wasn't added to my Universal Credit when I started my claim.
I am still a little confused how it has gone from £245-£256 to £277.08 ?
That's a difference between £21-£32 a month?
I found out that £277.08 is the standard allowance for 1 child, but why was I getting £21/£32 less before??0 -
Tax credits is approx £64 per week. That's £277 per month.0
