You could start building your friend's confidence: her age should not be asked for, and there are ways of 'hiding' it from potential employers - I don't mean in a deceptive way, just in the same way my CV never mentioned that I'd left jobs after having children.

f/t jobs may be scarce, but they're not non-existent, and she's presumably got many years' experience behind her.

And how about two p/t jobs? Maybe even one in a different line of work, to see if she likes it!

Also, she may not see why she should be hounded out of her job, but there's no guarantee of any redundancy even if she hangs on - it's the job which becomes redundant not the person, so if he felt he needed a replacement, there's nothing for her. It's one of those 'life's not fair' situations - but she has to deal with it, because nothing's going to make it fair for her.
