Wobbling into the World Trade OrganisationBrexiteers claim that trade on WTO terms would be fine. WrongIn practice, almost no countries trade with the EU on WTO terms alone
https://www.economist.com/britain/2017/11/30/brexiteers-claim-that-trade-on-wto-terms-would-be-fine-wrongWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
Or for an alternative perspective:
https://www.thenewamerican.com/world-news/europe/item/32452-eu-elections-was-brexit-the-beginning-of-the-end-for-the-european-unionPro-EU parties are still expected to hold a majority in the 751-seat European Parliament. However, the political reality is that, if France and Italy were to join the British in leaving the EU, the EU would likely be done. Perhaps Germany, which is the most dominant nation in the EU, could hold together a drastically reduced European Union, but it would be an EU dramatically reduced in power and influence.
In 1988, then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher warned about the centralizing growth of the European Community, which was morphing into the European Union. “We have not successfully rolled back the frontiers of the state in Britain, only to see them re-imposed at a European level, with a European super-state exercising new dominance.”
Meanwhile across at the pig trough: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/european-parliament-elections-5-takeaways-results-n1010491This was the first time in Europe's history that turnout for these elections has risen, climbing from 43 percent to an encouraging 51 percent.
"This is noteworthy," said Emmanouilidis at the European Policy Centre, calling the leap "remarkably higher."Yet the results spell a European Parliament that is going to be far more fragmented than it has been in recent years.
The two centrist giants bled support and will be unable to form the kind of "grand coalition" that they had before. Instead they might need another coalition partner or two, meaning more compromise and room for disagreement on key issues.
Timmermans, of the Social Democrats, has already ruled out attempting to build a coalition with the far-right, calling instead for a "progressive" grouping to be formed.
"It will become quite messy," said Emmanouilidis, describing attempts to find consensus in Brussels "an uphill struggle" at the best of times.
So we can all find reporting that suits different purposes but it all proves nothing until the jobs are dished out and people see how it will all change.0 -

The problem with this is that it needs a 4th question:
"Have you formed an opinion on these things based on assessing any kind of facts whatsoever?"
And maybe even a 5th question:
"Have you done any kind of risk/reward calculation on your choice?"
If I, as a Remainer, have come to the wrong decision, then we might all be a bit better off.
However, if you, as a Leaver have made the wrong decision, the country's economy might be wrecked.
Would you bet your house on this? Because it's seems that you have done...0 -

My point entirely, there is no such thing as impartial:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_IndependentThe Independent and The Independent on Sunday endorsed the "Remain" in the Brexit referendum of 2016.[210 -
Reality Check: Does the UK trade with 'the rest of world' on WTO rules?
See, it's not difficult is it? Sadly you've just performed more research that all of the prominent Leave campaigners combined, with more citations.
It's depressing how little those who are saying a WTO Brexit will be fine actually know about what it means. Even Farage can't answer any straight questions on it.0 -
I would agree with you except I remember the absolute misery caused by Margaret Thatcher and then John Major. In 1992 during the ERM crisis many people thousands of people lost their homes and their jobs, misery caused by the Tories. So I could see Tories going for a no deal Brexit.
People have got to stop voting Tory. It always ends the same way.
It's interesting that there are now two generations in the UK who have only every known Tory governments to mean economic crisis, fiscal austerity, and political chaos.
It's going to be very difficult to persuade any Gen X or Ys in the future to vote Conservative. They will likely always carry the same prejudice as the baby boomers do towards the Labour Party.0 -

I pointed out you're linking to a far-right website and you tell us The Independent backed Remain.
Okay matey.
One must read all sources to get a balanced perspective. Merely suggesting that there continues to be an ongoing selection of related articles that might lead one to believe some posters are blinkered.0 -
