Using wrong address. Scam?

If this is in the wrong section, please move to somewhere more appropriate.

Before Xmas, we started getting parcels from Amazon with our address but someone else's name. We are house number 2, so I figured it may be just a misprint and it was for 12 or 22.

Turns out it was for number 20. At least six more parcels arrive before Xmas, all the same name and address, all from Amazon. I redirected the deliveries to her.

Now we are getting more parcels from other companies using our address. Once or twice could be a mistake. Not multiple parcels from several companies.

I asked her to make sure she corrected her details when the second one arrived and she assured she would.

Any thoughts please?

  • Yea dont accept them.
  • How did you discover they were for no. 20?

Don#t accept any more at all, have them all refused at the door or if they are left contact the sender and ask them to collect safely.

Whilst this is probably a simple mistake there is a well known scam where an account is hacked and parcel sent to 'wrong' address and collected, only for there to be a chargeback later. It's not common, but worth having a google just in case, especially as more than one company is involved.

It might be worthwhile checking your credit history In case anyone is trying to steal your identity
  • I found out when I visited number 22 to ask if it was their parcel. The guy at 22 said the addressee lived at number 20.

I returned from walking the dog to find a parcel delivery from Yodel shoved through the letterbox.

I'm not taking it to her. If she comes to collect it, I'm going to want some explanation. If no one turns up, I'll contact Yodel and send it back.

    Good idea

A near neighbour of ours a few years ago would get parcels almost every day but was never in. Her direct neighbours were always given the parcels if they were in, if not it was my wife.

When she returned my wife or I would gladly hand over the parcel.
She would never come and ask for it, despite cards being being left. My neighbours eventually just stopped taking in anything for the same reason. Surely the parcel owner should be collecting the parcel, not waiting for the neighbours
  • I managed to catch the Yodel delivery guy and returned the parcel with "not known at this address" on it.

Explained the situation and he said that he won't deliver anything else with her name on. Job done hopefully.
