Netflix sign up - no email account checks?

Options
Someone used my email address to sign up for a netflix account and it appears there is no need to verify the email address as part of the sign up process so nothing to stop this.

Is this usual that companies allow you to sign up with an email address without actually checking it is your address and you have access to the mailbox?
I think....

Very simple to stop this. Log into Netflix using your email address, click on the 'forgotten password' and you will receive a re-setting email on your account. Enter new password and you have access to the account, and also cutting off the illegal user, so you can see details of bank account used, etc. Delete these and use Netflix free until it is turned off.

I have done all that (except I have got the account closed straight away rather than trying to use it). Who knows, the credit card details given could also have been fraudulent etc.

Just seems odd to me that netflix don't send out an email with a 'verify your email address' link the way most companies do.

You're not the first to wonder about this:
