Smart heating
Hi
We are expecting a baby later in year and the room we are going to use for a nursery gets a bit colder than rest of house. We have a wood burner so try not to heat house with CH once the fire is on, with little one we would need upstairs warmer.
I have been looking at the Drayton Wiser system due to the smart radiator valves so can adjust each room to different temps. However I have no TRV fitted so will be even more of an initial outlay.
Can anyone explain the process of how it works if I don't have radiator valves on all radiators at the start and upgrade as we go along.
I take it boiler stays on all the time so really to get full benefit I would need valves on all radiators?
One plumber has suggested got to g TRV to all radiators and just getting a nest or hive thermostat but I don't think that will achieve what we are after.
Thanks in advance

Just buy an oil filled radiator for baby's room, surely?
You'll only need to run it for at most a year or so, so the cost should not be as much as those fancy controls.0 -
I'd suggest a TRV on each radiator which will give you the opportunity to turn them all down if required and then if you want a bit more control put a programmable or even wireless TRV head on the one in the nursery.
Make sure though that your main house thermostat is not in a room thats controlled by a TRV nor the one with the wood burner in it.
Note that the nursery TRV wont be able to turn the boiler on & off - you need a much more sophisticated system that will control the boiler, pump and temperature in each room. It can be done but it's not cheap.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
As above, a single OFR will be much the best option. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks. Is there any point in getting the trvs then?0

As a couple of asides, Scandinavians are culturally happy to leave their young babies in the cold (not that I would advocate this, particularly to first-time parents, which comes with enough anxieties).
The other is whether TRVs are now compatible with remote systems, any idea?Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
