Everybody forgets that the ticket is a contract between you and the train company. No ticket to travel then no insurance if you have an accident., see tort.
  • Totally in agreement with Tigsteroonie who got it spot on.
    Should you? Yes.
    Will you? Probably not.
    Would I? Nope.

    Dilemma , what dilemma ?

This is another"What can we dream up next ?" from the back office in MSE Towers...

Does nobody actually write in ?

I would be interested to see the actual communications that prompt these so-called "dilemmas".

No. You tried to pay, but inefficiency at the destination prevented that.

If an individual was going to lose out I would return to pay, but in the scale of train companies inefficiencies this is a drop in the ocean.

Some people want to and will pay for everything . Others do not want to pay for anything at all if they think that they can not do so. By not paying you are a thief robbing someone or some company .Does it bother you to be called a thief ??Some will call you that. , others will say well done
  • You were given bad advice at the station...the rules have changed, you have to get a ticket BEFORE you start the journey, otherwise you will get a penalty fare, even if you go in search of the guard during your journey or queue at the end.

So, unless you want to pay double, and support the privatised bosses who have done away with ticket offices, and guards (although amazingly every train has a refreshment cart), I'd say no.

Also given that probably your train was delayed (or if not, the next one will be), ypu may as well consider it advance compensation.
  • I would say Yes, similar to MothballsWallet this type of incident ultimately increases fares for others.

Of course, as with a lot of these dilemmas, there is key information missing, such as:

    - Why was there no time to buy a ticket?
    - Was there a ticket machine at the destination?
    - How long was the journey and how much should the ticket have been?

Whilst none of these reason change the point that payment should have been made, they could be used to justify why it wasn't
  • This is literally the most ridiculous one I have ever seen, so much so that I am 100% convinced it is a troll. This can't be real. No one living in the 2019 can possibly have so little to worry about that something like this worries them.

    Seriously, NO.

Train fares go up every year and it is nothing to do with people who don't pay for their ticket. It is to do with privatisation. In Germany they operate an honesty policy, whereby there are no "ticket barriers" but you are expected to pay for your ticket. Anyone caught on a train with no ticket is issued a fine, but I have never seen a single ticket officer while I've been there. I bet at least 25% of people don't buy tickets either once in a while or ever. I wonder if they have these type of threads over on Sparen Sie Geld Experte (I made that up), I think not.

Anyone who calls an honest person a THIEF for not paying for a train ticket while they had no intention of doing so is a complete idiot and in no position to be casting judgement on anyone. How absolutely overly dramatic.
