    It's just a Golf-on-stilts, it's not as if it's THAT big.

Ford have been doing 1.0 triples in Mondeos.

As above. They have balancing weights on the crank and a dual mass flywheel to smoothen the engine out.

    dual mass... refinement...problems..?
  • I've a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder pug 208 with no turbo and I love it. As long you don't live in a hilly district you'll be fine.

these small capacity high output engines look great on paper BUT longevity is bound to be questionable after all you have a small engine having to work harder. Look at the issues with Ford ecotec engines

Had a three cylinder turbo, 15,000 miles largely town work and the turbo failed. Back to a well proven four cylinder with no turbo. Better mpg and far more relaxing to drive.

Wife has an Arona with the same engine. Fine for normal driving and doesn't feel particularly slow, it's a torque rather than revs engine.

If you are after a bit more performance theres a 1.5 option.
  • Ive been looking at Ateca's too, i'd go for the 1.5 though. Reason being is i used to have a 1.2 (turbo) 64 plate qashqai...nice for general city cruising and stop/start traffic, however the small engine vs its larger body size became apparent when pulling out of junctions, namely busy junctions, when you need that bit of power. To say it was slow and lagging would be an understatement. Id pull off and it would feel like the car was in limp mode - just rolling, then a few seconds later the turbo would kick in with a boost of acceleration (when i no longer needed it!)

My wife has the 1.0 ateca. Absolutely fine for what she uses it for - around town and mostly in 20 zones.

When used on he motorway its been fine, not fast but perfectly ok
