                    Hello All
First time posting so apologizes if i make any mistakes.
I recently purchased a new home which came with a security system installed. The system is functional but not armed. Unfortunately the house was a repo so a lot of the info from the previous owner is missing, this includes the pin code for the alarm.
As the alarm isn't armed this hasn't been a problem for us but now iv come to do some reading on the alarm system iv discovered that if there is a power cut, when the power comes back on the alarm will sound, the only way to cancel this is with the pin. If there is a power cut at 2am this could be a nightmare.
The alarm system is an SL compact. is there a way i can re-set the system? (im assuming not as it wouldn't be very secure) or is it possible to get an engineer out to re-set it?

It shouldn't, back-up batteries are there to prevent this. However . . . the batteries do deteriorate over time, so if it's an old system anything's possible.iv discovered that if there is a power cut, when the power comes back on the alarm will sound
I don't know the system at all. With some systems, the only way to reset alarms, if you don't have the codes, is to return the main board to the manufacturer . .
You could disable it by removing any back-up batteries (normally one in the bell box and one in the control box) and disconnecting the system from the mains.0 -
Either contact the previous owners and get the alarm details off them or better still ring round your local alarm firms to get a quote for a stand alone alarm service, shouldn't be much more than £50-£70. They shoud be able to reset it and let you set up a new code.0

Indeed when we had a power cut a while back (middle of night of course) the bell box triggered because the backup battery for the panel was dead. It was a lead acid and probably 10 years old.societys_child wrote: »It shouldn't, back-up batteries are there to prevent this. It also turned out that system had been left with the default engineer code.0 -

Yes, but if it is anything like the firms I have tried they make their money by putting huge markups on any parts!
One wanted to charge me three times what I had paid elsewhere for a 7 Ahr 12 volt battery for the control panel!
At one point their "test" for if the backup battery needed changing was to connect it to box containing a car cigarette lighter and count how many seconds it took to heat up and pop out! Virtually anything was pronounced a fail!0 -
Do any of your neighbours know the previous owners or a relative of the previous owners so you can trace them to get the alarm code from them.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

Isn't it always, just like when batteries need changing in smoke alarms . . .TadleyBaggie wrote: »Indeed when we had a power cut a while back (middle of night of course)
